CLASS OBSERVATION You are welcome to come and
observe a class at any time. Just call ahead to ensure the class is scheduled. You can also schedule a "tryout" (if there is space available) for a $15 fee which can be
applied to tuition for current classes. Please be sure to call first.
DIRECTIONS Heading west on #10 Santa Monica Freeway, exit Cloverfield, turn right,
remain on Cloverfield to Santa Monica Boulevard, turn left to one block past 20th Street, to the corner of 19th Street (right side). PARKING There is limited parking
in our parking lot, but space is available on Santa Monica Boulevard, and on 19th Street north of Santa Monica Boulevard. Please be sure to observe parking regulations and restrictions. |

Workshop Sign up NOW! BEGINNER ROCK GUITAR WORKSHOP
Saturdays - 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. _______________________________________________ A 10-week course introducing
ALTERNATIVE, CLASSIC ROCK and BLUES GUITAR. The fundamentals of chords, strum patterns, tablature and standard notation are covered in a FUN group setting.
Course Outline: Topics to be covered include:
- Understanding the guitar and how it works -- frets, strings, tuning
- Fingering techniques, using your thumb, picks
- Warm-up exercises to strengthen hands and develop coordination
- First chord study -- open major, minor, and power chords
- Reading music -- tablature and standard notation, familiarizing notes on neck
- Rhythm and strum patterns -- time signatures, counting, wrist development
- First tunes and chord progressions -- intro to finger picking
- Group performance -- playing easy pieces to understand dynamics and tempo
Course Requirements: Class size limited to 12 students, ages 8 years to adult. Electric and acoustic players welcome. Two books are required: The Musicians
Institute Guitar Handbook ($4.95) and From Liverpool to Abbey Road ($14.95). Both books are available at Santa Monica Music Center. Jay Green will provide printouts of exercise
and tunes for practice. Jay Green currently currently runs his own digital recording studio/publishing company and teaches Rock/Pop guitar to over 30 students a week at the Santa Monica Music
